Things are heating up in the Sunshine State and the scholarship competition hasn’t even begun! We are excited to announce the students participating in the inaugural CCA Florida Youth Scholarship Program presented by Mud Hole Custom Tackle, who will compete for $11,000 in college scholarship funds.
As we revealed in April, Mud Hole and Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Florida have teamed up to bring scholarship opportunities to Florida high school students who are passionate about preserving natural resources for future generations. The students will be immersed in a unique five-day experience, participating in a variety of fun and educational activities. As the week progresses, students will be evaluated on participation, engagement, and delivery of his or her conservation-focused speech.
The students will arrive in Central Florida on Sunday, June 12 to meet each other and enjoy a welcome dinner with CCA Florida team members. The next day, the program will kick off at Mud Hole Custom Tackle headquarters in Oviedo, Florida. The day will include presentations from CCA Florida and Mud Hole executives, tours of the Mud Hole facilities, and a hands-on fishing rod building seminar, specifically designed for the students by Mud Hole’s expert rod building instructors.
Throughout the week, the students will experience a variety of activities and destinations, including a tour of the Duke Energy Mariculture Center in Crystal River, fishing for Barramundi at Osceola Outback Adventures, a visit to the Sea Life Orlando Aquarium and Orlando Eye, a tour of the Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach, kayaking in the Indian River, and even a trash clean up in Tomoka State Park!
The program will conclude with an Awards Dinner on Thursday evening at Mud Hole headquarters and the scholarship winners will be announced!
From Miami to DeLeon Springs, this year's participants come from areas across the state. We wish all of the students a great experience and best of luck!
