Custom Rod Building Reaches Teachers & Students Teaching Life Skills
With the 2021 school year well underway, Mud Hole Custom Tackle’s Education Program had the pleasure of attending the 94th Annual Future Farmers of America (FFA) National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. FFA is a nationwide youth organization that teaches students leadership and life skills through agricultural education. This year, the Mud Hole Education Team’s focus was to showcase the new developments that have been made within the program and to let teachers know that Mud Hole is here as an educational aid to further their local teaching initiatives.
Given the natural alignment between the fishing industry and agriculture education, Mud Hole has been attending the FFA National Convention since 2009 and already works with over 650 schools across the United States. In addition to schools, the Mud Hole Education Program partners with Boy Scouts of America, 4-H, and many more youth organizations to support their efforts to reach and educate kids. The Mud Hole team has two main goals: to provide rod building materials for students, and to be a resource tool for educators. Anthony Youmans, Mud Hole’s Education Program Director, wants teachers to know that aside from being fun, custom rod building is a great way for kids to learn, develop, and display skills that will positively impact their futures.
At this year’s convention, the Mud Hole team had a blast meeting so many enthusiastic teachers and students. Whether it was current teachers already engaged in the Mud Hole Education Program, or new ones that are about to start their journey with custom rod building, Mud Hole was there to display all the fun to be had within this amazing program. This year Mud Hole provided an interactive game where kids tested their casting skills in order to win some prized Mud Hole gear. In addition, the Mud Hole raffle gave away custom Mud Hole fishing rods and reels to lucky winners!
Mud Hole Custom Tackle’s Education Program was started over 13 years ago and has grown to be the number one provider for rod building supplies and instruction in the classroom. To date, the program has reached over 30,000 students across America and in Canada and Australia, with hands on activities that promote classroom engagement.
Mud Hole continues to develop better ways to reach out to teachers and educate them through the whole process of rod building. Now, more than ever, the Education Program is working on organized curriculums, resources, and time stamps to help aid teachers with implementing custom rod building into their classrooms.
