Great blank

This blank is a fantastic blank for a rod with exceptional backbone while maintaining a good tip

7'3" heavy mag taper MB874

Love this rod it is my favorite Jig rod and I have 2 of them .It has just the right amount of tip and a good backbone for hook sets .I also use it for anything texas rigged. There is always a MB874 on the deck of my boat.. Happy fishing.

MHX 7'3" Heavy Mag Taper Rod Blank - MB874

Great rod for medium cover

I love this blank for fishing jigs/texas rigs on fluoro down deep weedline. The softer tip and heavy backbone makes it perfect for this. I used to use this blank for frogging too and really liked it but I don't use it anymore because I have broken a few. I would not say it is a weak blank because it seems to hold up on big fish in heavy cover but I think the blank ends up breaking down after a summer or two of fishing very heavy cover and ends up breaking near the handle on a hookset. All blanks were replaced with MHX warranty with no problems.

If you're looking for a heavy frog blank I would suggest the MHX FP885. The mod/fast action gives you a little more forgiveness when they are in the thick stuff.

Power rating?

I've built MB843's and MB 873's and decided to try the MB 874. The increase in power was more than I expected. Still a nice blank.
