Build this phenomenal Redfish & Seatrout rod with live, personalized instruction from Jesus Peña!
Jesus swears by the IS701L for durability, functionality and sensitivity. It's gloss white finish contrasts beautifully with bright red wraps and a Red Paua shell inlay.
The LZR guides promise smooth and effortless casting all day, and an ultra-tacky Winndry® polymer handle make this rod a lightweight fishing machine. Jesus has even included a little secret weapon – 'pixie dust' which some say has the power to charm the spookiest reds into taking a bite.

You need to take this class! If you fish and want to understand the dynamics or how a custom rod performs, this is the class for you! Mike and Buzz make an excellent team at teaching rod building. They have the ability to go as deep or wide as you need them to cover the particulars of each concept of the build. They even have the ability to pull you into a one on one. The big win for me is this is not a one class and done unless you decide. after the class, they open the door to a weekly advance topic hosted by Mud Hole staff to Broaden your building knowledge. Great Job Guys!
Buzz and Mike are incredibly patient and highly informative I would highly recommended this class for all!!
So if you’re thinking you can’t get the in-person learning experience remotely, you’d be incorrect. The instructors give you so much individual attention, it’s easy to follow along with them on Zoom, and they stay with you until you’ve got it nailed down, even if that means the class runs outside the scheduled hours. Cindy and Curt did a great job, I learned an awful lot in the 3 sessions we had. Now can we talk about value? The rod kit is very nice, and the equipment/supplies that come with the class are worth the entry fee on their own. Best couple hundred bucks I’ve spent in quite some time. I’ll be taking more classes like this for sure.
I would like to thank Jose and Buzz for the Texas Redfish Rod build. They were both excellent instructors and were very informative and answered any questions I had. They were very knowledgeable and made a first timer very comfortable in making his first rod.
Curt was a fantastic instructor. I was initially on the fence about taking a rod building class virtually, but could not justify the travel expense for going to FL just for a single class. After getting going with the class, the virtual environment that mudhole has set up works really well. It almost feels as though you have one on one points of instruction that you otherwise would not have with the in-person classes. Though this class was intended for someone with a little bit of a rod building background, Curt was able to walk me through any of the questionable steps and explain why we do what we do when building a rod.
