MHX 7'0" Med-Heavy Mag Taper Rod Blank - MB843

I’ve used this blank for a multi purpose spinning rod … bait casting wise I have two for fishing jigs, one for spinner baiting and about to make another spinner bait rod. I Love the various colors because I use specific colors for specific applications. If you never used this Mag Taper 7’ Med Heavy blank, it’s a must have in your fishing arsenal.

Not only was this the first one I ever built a mini surf rod style, it caught me countless striped bass over 40” and one 51” handed huge fish with a 5k sustain beautifully. But was also fun for smaller ones on surface feeds early season. So far the most versatile inshore/freshwater rod I’ve ever owned. Ps this caught a 5’ long short nose sturgeon and more late bass before it snapped on a cast 3 days later.

I have to say I was blown away on how light these blanks are. I compared to NFC blank and in all honesty at this price point I would go with the MHX Color series blanks. Very durable paint job on these blanks too. Only downside is waiting for your color to be in stock because they are gone as soon as they arrive. Highly recommended blank. For transparency, I am a 75% small mouth, and 25% large mouth up in the north country.

I have several of these rods in the quiver now, I have one as a basic boat rod, guest or a back up rod that I can pretty much put anything for the day, except super finesse. I have legit put top water, swim baits, jigs, tubes, spinnerbaits, and to be honest it doesn't do any thing extremely well but its more then good enough, its just a jack of all trades and a master of none.

I will say I have tried 10 or so type of rods for my free rigs, and this rod has easily taken its spot as my dedicated free rig rod though, hence why I have multiples of it now, its got enough back bone to crack them across the face, and fast enough to sense a super light bite on the up swing. Combine it with a Shimano DC reel, its lights out with a free rig.

If I had to choose only one rod to fish with all day, this is the one. If this is your first rod you build, this is an excellent choice. I always have this rod on my boat, and I think this might be the only rod that I can say that about, its a good testament to its versatility and value.

This was my first choice to build on, as I have heard it's the flagship model of the flagship series. Let me tell you, it has been incredible at catching smallmouth, walleye and even stripers! Highly recommend that you take a look at this blank.
